Find PEACE here

The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum has been involved in dialogue-based art appreciation activities since the museum first opened. We believe that activities visitors organize and convey their ideas to others are directly related to a greater understanding of one’s self and others as well as fostering peace education. In fiscal 2021, we embarked on a project to develop an art-appreciation program that would contribute to peace education. Now, we are launching the PEACE web platform, which compiles a multitude of lessons plans and appreciation tools developed in collaboration with teachers on site in the past.

PEACE is a web platform that allows the user to access a variety of lesson plans and related materials regarding works by five artists in the museum collection along with high-definition images of the works. The plans and images enable learners to utilize teacher-centered programs for a variety of education facilities from nursery school to university while also overcoming geographical and temporal boundaries.
Through dialogue-based appreciation, users learn not only about historical events that formed a backdrop for the artworks, they also consider the relationship with the world in which they are now living. This promises to have a positive effect of future-oriented learning. The name PEACE is an acronym for “Peace Education through Art Content Explorer.”

Teachers’ Day

Several times a year we present an event for teachers from all types of educational institutions that introduces the museum’s school programs and the PEACE web platform, and provides hands-on art-appreciation experiences. Handicrafts and other art teachers are of course welcome, as are teachers of other subjects.
