Summary
This exhibition introduces Japanese crafts from the late 19th to the early 20th century drawn from the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. In the Meiji Period (1868-1912), Kyoto began to cultivate unique arts and culture by forging a link between traditional approaches and a new temporal context. While focusing on changing designs in crafts, this exhibition examines the development of splendid craft works that are exclusive to Kyoto. As reference works, we are also presenting Nagasaki crafts from the early modern era that can be seen as a foundation for export works made during the Meiji era.
